Getting access
Access is requested per person — complete FERPA training and submit a short form. Most requests are approved in 1–3 business days.

Help & How-to
How do I create and manage a query?
- From the Queries page, click Build a Query.
- Choose the filters that define the population you want — term, major, class standing, cohort year, campuswide honors, incoming status, GPA range, and more.
- Name the query and save it. AnteaterAdvising runs the filters right away and saves the matching students.
- Leave it be from there — the query automatically re-runs to pick up newly matching (or no-longer-matching) students, so it stays current without any upkeep.
To make changes later, open the query and edit its filters, rename it, or delete it from its detail page. If you'd rather lock in a fixed list, use Save as tag to freeze the current results into a manual tag.
How do I create and manage a tag?
- From the Queries page, click Create Tag.
- Name the tag, and optionally group it by term or year.
- Add students to the tag — one at a time from their profile, or in bulk using the bulk-add tool.
- Remove students the same way whenever the list changes.
You can rename a tag at any time from its detail page. To delete one, remove all of its students first, then delete the tag.
How do I get access?
Assuming your office is already using AnteaterAdvising, here's how to request your own access:
- Complete the FERPA training module through UCLC.
- Fill out the access request form.
- Submit it for review — you'll either be approved, or contacted if more information is needed.
Requests are typically processed in 1–3 business days. Questions in the meantime? Email compass@uci.edu.
If your office is not using AnteaterAdvising, please review the section about onboarding a new office.
How do I onboard my office?
If your office is new to AnteaterAdvising, email compass@uci.edu. We'll set up your group's access and can schedule a training walkthrough so your team starts off comfortable with tags, queries, and student profiles.
Once your office is set up, each advisor requests their own access — see How do I get access? above.
What data is available on the student profile?
A student's profile brings together their academic standing, cumulative GPA, class standing, major(s), and entry status; any Change of Major Interest on file; upcoming and recent UCI appointments; their active Reminders; Canvas activity and course performance; and current enrollment and grades, with a link out to WebAdmin for the full record.
If you opened the profile from a tag or query, you can step through the rest of the list with next/previous, so a review session never loses its place.
What Canvas data is available?
Two things: an Activity Score, which shows how engaged a student is in Canvas relative to their classmates (Top, Upper, Lower, or Lowest quartile), and a course performance score, which is the current percentage of points a student has earned in an active course. Once a term ends, final grades take the place of the live performance score.
How do I use the "Change of Major Interest" feature?
On a student's profile, use "Add change of major interest" to record that a student wants to change or add a major. Set the major they're moving to, a goal term, and any notes.
AnteaterAdvising tracks it as pending until the student's declared major matches the goal, at which point it's marked fulfilled and you can close it out. If the goal term passes before the change happens, it's flagged as overdue so it doesn't get missed.
How do I use Reminders?
Add a reminder from a student's profile with a title, an optional due date, and a context (Course, Appointment, or Registration Action). You can assign it to yourself or anyone else in your group.
Reminders are visible to your whole advising group, not just you, and show up on your dashboard sorted into Active, Due Soon, Overdue, and Done — so outreach follow-ups don't slip through the cracks.
What is the data latency?
Both of AnteaterAdvising's data sources refresh once a day — enrollment, grades, and registrar data from SDW, and Canvas engagement data from UDP. In practice, that means what you see reflects the prior day's activity.
What are SDW and UDP?
SDW (Student Data Warehouse) is UCI's system of record for registrar and admissions data — enrollment, grades, majors, class standing, and cohort information.
UDP (Unizin Data Platform) is the source for Canvas engagement and course performance data.
